Biography of Ken Martin
Born and raised in New York City, Ken has had an interest in art and drawing since he was a young child, and he credits his father with developing his artistic sense. One of his earliest memories is of being taught to draw cars and trucks by his father; lessons that left a lasting impression on him. During his grammar school years, Ken could always be found drawing his own comic books, fantasy characters and caricatures.
Following high school, Ken studied at the School of Visual Arts, where he majored in Commercial Design and Fine Art. During that time, he was also involved in the music scene and played bass guitar in a progressive rock group. When he wasn't writing lyrics for the group's songs, he was designing the their logo and record covers. Ken eventually realized that that his true calling was not music, and he returned to art full-time. He began experimenting with an airbrush that he received as a gift, and since that time, he has used it as his primary painting tool. Inspired by the work of Olivia DeBerardinis, Patrick Nagel, Jurek, Hajime Sorayama, and the classy eroticism of filmmaker Andrew Blake, Ken began working on a series of fashion and pin-up related art in 1994, which he dubbed the "Airotica" series. These paintings used bold geometric forms and textures to accent his female subjects, and one of his more successful pieces, "Tatjana 2", is a prime example of this series.
More recently, Ken's erotic illustration work has been featured in Leg Show Magazine, Club International Magazine and the Rolex Cup Regatta Fine Art Catalogue. He has also been involved in a number of exhibitions and gallery showings, including the Lifestyles Erotic Art Exhibitions and Tamara Bane Gallery in Los Angeles. Ken's premier art book was released in October 2004, and his two of his Marilyn Monroe pieces are featured in the book, "Marilyn in Art".
